Bimonthly Report Filters

Posted by Dan Gebhardt on August 20th, 2007

Reports can now be filtered by the periods "This half month" and "Last half month". The first half of any month is considered the 1st through the 15th, and the second half is the 16th through the end of month. We hope that this will be useful for those of you who report your time on a bimonthly basis.

A complete list of filterable periods is shown below:

In addition to making date ranges easy to select, filterable periods are useful for creating memorized reports because dates are recalculated from periods whenever reports are run. This allows you to create memorized reports such as "My hours this half month" which you can run with a single click and never have to reconfigure.

ID Fields

Posted by Dan Gebhardt on August 16th, 2007

We've added custom ID fields for classifications and users. IDs can be used to keep track of your data, and may reference IDs that you use elsewhere for project management or accounting purposes.

The assignment of IDs to your data is completely optional. However, we're sure that these fields will be useful to clients who need to manage a large number of classifications.

New "Activity" Classification

Posted by Dan Gebhardt on August 16th, 2007

We've just added an optional secondary classification for time entries. Named "activity" by default, this classification is independent of the primary classifications already available (i.e. clients, projects and tasks). Activities are particularly useful for tracking concepts that are common to much of your work because they eliminate the need to create duplicate tasks for all of your projects.

Administrators can configure classifications using the updated Account / Classification screen:

Activities are assigned to users, just like projects. This keeps your list of available activities short and focused, enabling for quick selection when making time entries:

Remember that the use of this classification is completely optional. In fact, you can enable and disable this classification without any loss of data, so please feel free to try it out if you believe it will enhance your use of LiveTimer.

New Report Features

Posted by Dan Gebhardt on August 8th, 2007

We've just completed a number of improvements to the reporting capabilities of LiveTimer.com.

Reports can now be "memorized" for quick viewing at a later date. Just click on the Memorize button while you're viewing a report to have it appear in the new Memorized reports listing.

Recently viewed reports are now being tracked as well. This feature allows you to return to a report that you've recently viewed with a single click.

These new features can be seen on the home page of the Reports section, which now looks like this:

Furthermore, we've streamlined report generation with a step-by-step wizard which allows you to fully configure and filter a report before viewing it. At any step of the wizard you can accept the default settings and jump ahead to view the report. The following screenshot shows one step of this wizard:

We hope that these new features make reporting easier than ever. Please let us know what you think and if you have ideas for other improvements to LiveTimer.com.
